Ahmadinejad dismisses Wikileaks documents

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told an international press conference that Wikileaks documents are" worthless" and “lack legitimacy.”

Ahmadinejad opined that the Wikileaks documents are part of a mischievous game and will have no effect on Iran's international relations. He added: " We do not give any legal credence to these documents and regard it as a worthless game.”

Wikileaks has recently published a series of documents that states that the US has turned down requests from Israel and Iran’s Arab neighbours to go head with a military attack on Iran.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad maintained that these documents have not leaked out but they are in fact being leaked out on purpose in regulated intervals.

He claimed these documents have been produced and leaked out by the United States government.

He added: "Our relations with our Gulf neighbours is very amicable. We are brothers and live together. Our ties are growing and developing. And these papers have no credibility."

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was also asked about cutting government subsidies which is one of the most important programs facing Ahmadinejad government. The government has so far refrained from giving an exact date for the implementation of the new law regarding government subsidies and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not make any announcements about it today either.

He claimed that people have received 40 thousand and five hundred toumans ($40) from the government which they can use as soon the subsidies are cut.

According to the new law, 16 goods and services will no longer be subsidized and instead will be offered at international prices. The government subsidies on gasoline, natural gas, oil, water, electricity, wheat, sugar, rice, milk and oil will be phased out in five years and they will be offered at prices coordinated with the Persian Gulf markets.

The cutting of subsidies will produce a 20 billion dollar surplus for the government, half of which will be distributed amongst eligible households.
