Iranian reporter released from house arrest in Italy
Hamid Massouminejad
Mohammadali Hosseini Iran’s ambassador to Italy announced that the Islamic Republic reporter, Hamid Massouminejad is no longer under house arrest in Milan.
The ambassador told ISNA that Milan prosecutor signed the order of release which was also approved by the court interrogator on Monday.
Hosseini announced that this does not mean that the file has been closed by described it as a “positive step” toward concluding this matter.
While Massouminejad is released from house arrest, he is still forbidden from leaving Italy.
Last December, Hamid Massouminejad and Ali Damirchilo along with five Italian nationals were arrested for the charge of “arms smuggling to Iran.” Massouminejad’s arrest was turned to house arrest in May.
Italian officials claim that the detainees were smuggling arms to Iran through United Arab Emirates and Romania but Iran has denied this charge.
