Hardliner accuses US of supporting sedition in Iran
Ahmad Jannati
Iranian hardliner, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati says “sedition” has threatened the Islamic Republic many times during the leadership of Ayatollah Khamenei and accused the US of supporting "seditious movements."
ILNA reports that on Tuesday speaking to a gathering at a Qom mosque, Jannati claimed God has saved the Islamic Republic from several seditious movements during the time of Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Islamic Republic establishment refers to the widespread protests of last year to the alleged fraudulent re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as sedition. The student uprising of ten years earlier, in July of 1999 is also considered a seditious attack by Iranian hardliners.
Ahmad Jannati claimed that he is in possession of documents that prove the US transferred a billion dollars through Saudi individuals to the “leaders of sedition.”
MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, the presidential candidates of the 2009 elections who challenged Ahmadinejad’s victory are often addressed as “leaders of sedition” by the Islamic Republic hardliners; however, the two disputing candidates insist that their intentions are not seditious but rather reform within the framework of the Islamic Republic.
Ahmad Jannati added: “The Saudis, speaking on behalf of the US told (the leaders of sedition) if you can destroy them, we will give you up to fifty billion dollars.”
He went on to say: “In the recent sedition, leaders of sedition started the upheaval and they were certain that with the assistance of the US the Revolution will be finished since it is a soft war and in this way people distance themselves from the regime and when the regime loses it people, it will naturally collapse.”
While so far the disputing candidates of the presidential elections were not arrested because of their prominent position in the Islamic Republic history and system, hardliners have repeatedly called for their arrest accusing them of trying to topple the Islamic regime.
