Prosecution of Iranian student activists continues

An Iranian appellate court upheld the six-year imprisonment sentence of Kiarash Kamrani along with a $40,000 fine.

The Lorestan University student was charged with “participating in gatherings that threaten national security, propaganda against the regime, insulting the leadership and the presidency as well as resisting an officer of the law.”

Jaras reports that Kamrani was arrested in December in the Ashura Day protests and was held in solitary confinement for over 40 days.

He was reportedly denied access to an attorney during his trial.

Danshjoo News reported the arrest of Massoud Kadkhodai, an Amir Kabir University student this week at his home.

The student activist has been taken to an unidentified location and he has had no contact with his family since his arrest.

Mohammad Feyz, student of Ferdowsi University in Mashhad, was arrested during the “gathering of silence” held across Mashhad universities.

Mashhad university students announced that if the authorities fail to release Mohammad Feyz, they will sit in protest at the university campuses.

On the anniversary of the election of the reformist president, Mohammad Khatami on May 24, the students in Mashhad universities held a gathering of silence.

The government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has targeted the student movement with repeated arrests and heavy imprisonment terms.
