Iran Head of Judiciary condemned divisive movements

Sadegh Larijani, Iran Head of Judiciary

Iran’s Head of Judiciary, Sadegh Larijani spoke out against targeting of Shiite clerics and Islamic Republic officials and urged the Ministry of Culture to tighten supervision over the media.

In a meeting with judiciary officials, Sadegh Larijani announced that some media outlets have been trying to “create upheaval and divisions” in the establishment.

He spoke out against the publication of “false and divisive analyses,” claiming certain political movements are using their “safe boundaries” to spread doubt and divisions amidst the system’s officials.

Last week, Yahya Rahim Safavi, the Supreme Leader’s adviser also spoke out against slander and attacks on Shiite clerics and the family of “martyrs.”

Ayatollah Yousef Sanei and Ayatollah Ali-Mohammad Dastgheib are two prominent reformist clerics whose homes and offices were attacked by pro-government forces in plain clothes.

The two have also been targeted by conservative media and government officials to such extent that the Society of Qom Seminaries went as far as claiming Ayatollah Sanei does not have the necessary criteria for being a Shiite cleric leader.

Ayatollahs Sanei and Dastgheib and several other clerics have condemned the government's violent confrontation with election protesters in the past months and called for the release of all political prisoners.
