Opposition leader, Karroubi attacked in public
Mehdi Karroubi, disputing candidate of the June presidential election, was attacked by a group of Ahmadinejad supporters as the opposition leader was trying to attend a media exhibition in Tehran.
Parleman News website reports that a group of men in plain clothes wielding clubs attacked Mehdi Karroubi and pulled off his turban. Mr. Karroubi’s companions thus led him out and away from the exhibition.
The report maintains that after Mr. Karroubi entered the exhibition, hundreds of election protesters approached the Fars News Agency booth and chanted anti-government slogans.
Prior to the exhibition, various internet networks had spread out a call for a gathering of protesters at the event. Protesters had prepared posters in support of the recently banned newspapers and dailies, and called on supporters to put up the posters in the exhibition area, especially across from state supported media.
In the past four months, following protests to the alleged fraudulent presidential victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the government has closed down numerous pro-reform media outlets. The protesters have adopted the name of “green movement” for their protests and have been attending public gathering and events with green symbols to continue expressing their protests to the countries political situation.
