"Avert the deaths in detentions centres"
The Association of the Defenders of Human Rights, headed by Nobel Laureate, Shirin Ebadi, urged Iranian officials to prevent the deaths of people in detention centres. The unsettling reports of death and torture from these centres forced Iranian authorities to close down the infamous Kahrizak Detention Centre. The Association claimed that the number of detainees is far more than the official reports and their detention without warrant is against the constitution.
A group of lawyers demanded the release of three of their colleagues who have been detained for weeks. Reportedly, Shadi Sadre, one of the lawyers, was finally released. 200 journalists have also presented the Head of Judiciary with a petition for the unconditional release of their colleagues. Reporters without Borders reports that from the 50 journalist arrested in the aftermath of the elections, 25 are still in custody.
