Senior political figure's health deteriorates in Iranian prison

Ebrahim Yazdi

Ebrahim Yazdi, the detained secretary general of Iranian Freedom Movement Party was transferred to Evin Prison infirmary due to “severe pain in the heart and increase in his blood pressure” last night.

Zamaneh has been told that since his transfer to Evin Prison, there is no news of him.

The eighty-year-old political prisoner who also suffers from cancer was arrested in September along with a number of other party members at a funeral for attending what the authorities referred to as “an illegal Friday prayers mass.”

While all other detainees of the occasion were released, Yazdi remains in prison after two months.

Ten prominent political figures issued an announcement last week condemning the continued incarceration of Ebrahim Yazdi. They reported that the security and prison authorities have been preventing Ebrahim Yazdi from receiving his medication and from being examined by his doctor.

The signatories of the announcement which included Zahra Rahnavard, Mohammadreza Khatami and Fakhrosadat Mohatashamipour, urged the authorities to release Ebrahim Yazdi and avoid the dire consequences of keeping the senior political figure in prison.
