Karroubi slams government violence against people's peaceful movement

Iranian opposition leader, Mehdi Karroubi once more condemned government violence against election protesters saying even the late MohammadReza Pahlavi, the last Iranian Monarch, did not treat the people with such aggression.

In an interview with the reformist website Jaras, Karroubi called for an end to violence against the people.

Mehdi Karroubi emphasized: “Continued security measures in events and exhibitions reveal that the protest movement is alive.”

He stressed that the people’s protest movement is a “civil movement as opposed to being a violent and armed one.”

He also reported that the rulers have become so “fearful” that they force his visitors to sign documents saying they will never visit the opposition leader again.

He insisted that the ruling system has lost its popular bases and is trying to justify itself through “exerting pressure on the people.”

The opposition leader also urged Iranians outside of Iran to be more considerate in their actions and their reflection on the protest movement inside Iran.

He added that “extremist actions outside Iran” sometimes translates into “greater pressure inside the country.”

Karroubi maintained that the Islamic Republic uses “extremist” actions outside Iran as a tool to increase pressure on the people within the country.

He also urged protesters to beware of “infiltrators” who try to draw the people toward “extremist slogans which give the government an excuse to subject people to further oppression.”
