Opposition leader's senior aides released

Tehran’s prosecutor’s office announced the release of Mohammadreza Tajik and Alireza Beheshti two of MirHosein Mousavi’s senior aides who were arrested following the Ashura Day protests.
The two were released Tuesday night after the completion of investigations and putting up bail. Media outlets connected to the conservatives announced that Mr. Tajik will appear in a special interview on Channel Two national network to discuss issues concerning the elections.
Tehran judiciary also announced that the appeals court has also confirmed the sentences handed to 35 detainees and they will soon be put into effect.
These detainees are said to have been accused of “assembly and collusion against national security, propaganda against the regime, attacking security officials, vandalism and arson.”
Prominent reformist figure, Behzad Nabavi is amongst these detainees who was sentenced to 6 years in the preliminary court and has finally handed a five-year prison sentence by the appeals court.
The Public and Revolutionary court of Tehran also announced that one of the detainees of Ashura Day has been issued the death penalty and 8 others have received prison terms.
These individuals are said to have been charged with “enmity against God, gathering and collusion against national security and propaganda against the regime.”
The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran issued a condemnation of the trial of Mohammad Amin Valian, a student activist who has been accused of “enmity against God.” Valian is one of the 16 people who have been put on trial for peaceful political protests and accused of “enmity with God.”
