Iran Head of Judiciary: Allegation of fraud, a big lie

Iran’s Head of Judiciary, Sadegh Larijani, said today that those who have “claimed that the elections were rigged, have broken the law.”

He added that “this allegation of fraud was a big lie which became the source of extensive damage.”

In a meeting with the Minority Faction of the Parliament, Sadegh Larijani maintained that he “silence of the elite and their lack of foresight” were also at fault in the post-election events.

After Iran’s presidential elections in June of last year, MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi disputed the result which claimed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the winner by a landslide. The two disputing candidates refused to recognize the legitimacy of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s consequent government.

This dispute, backed by widespread popular protests, has continued over the past seven months and the violent crackdown on protesters has taken the life of at least 40 protesters.

According to ISNA Sadegh Larijani claimed that those who have questioned the Islamic Republic system in the post election events have “hurt the feeling and sentiments of the public and the pious.”

Last month, the Head of Judiciary warned the reformist leaders that the judiciary has “ample” evidence and files against them.

Mehdi Karroubi dismissed the Head of the Judiciary’s comments maintaining that his “political comments without any legal foundations” were a “disgrace” to the Iranian judiciary.
