Karroubi aide, Mortreza Alviri released on bail

Post-election detainee Morteza Alviri was released today in Iran. Mehr news agency, citing an unidentified judiciary official, reported that Mr. Alviri has been released after putting up bail. Reportedly Tehran’s prosecutor’s office was not involved in the release.

Mr. Alviri, former mayor of Tehran was arrested on September 8 by security officers and according to ILNA his bail was set at 2 billion rials.

Morteza Alviri was head of Mehdi Karroubi committee for the protection of election votes and after the election, was a member of the committee for the investigation of the post-election victims and detainees.

Behzad Nabavi

Some news outlets reported that Behzad Nabavi, senior member of reform group, Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution was also released on bail but his family could not confirm this news.

Mr. Nabavi was arrested on June 13 following the tenth presidential election. He suffers from heart disease and has had to undergo another surgery whilst in custody.

Yesterday, Friday, prominent journalist Mohammad Ghouchani was released on bail after 131 days in custody.

Following the elections, numerous reformist political and social activists have been arrested, many of which were presented in mass trials accused of threatening national security.

The announced victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the tenth president of Iran in June has been disputed by MirHosein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and his supporters. Reformist organizations such as Islamic Iran Participation Front and Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution have supported the claim of fraud in the elections and refused to accept the legitimacy of the consequent government.
