Mousavi: Iran's reform movement persistent

MirHosein Mousavi reaffirmed the continuity of the reform movement with another statement lauding the people’s persistence in pursing their rights by joining the protest march on September 18. Mousavi claims that the “unprecedented” State violence has merely resulted in a “more expansive” presence of people in the protests.

Referring to the tens of thousands of people who attended the election protests at the behest of opposition leaders, Mousavi declared: “The importance of this year’s Qods Day march was that it revealed the new existence that the people have elected is not a temporary and passing matter.” And reproaching the State for its violent crackdown on protesters, the opposition leader said: “Fury is a horse that will topple its rider.”

On the last Friday of Muslim month of Ramadan, for thirty years Iran has held ceremonies in support of Palestine. The Qods (Jerusalem) Day march this year, differed from every year since election protesters staged their own march with their green symbols chanting slogans that represented their own national demands from the government.

Opposition leaders were condemned by conservative faction of the government for creating division on this day of Muslim solidarity. Mr. Mousavi writes “without providing and spreading justice within our borders, how can we protest against oppression and injustice is distant lands?”

Mr. Mousavi once more emphasized: “We request the full execution of the constitution and a return to the Islamic Republic’s original ethics. We demand the Islamic Republic, not a word less; not a word more.”

While granting people the right to be angry at the unacceptable action of the security forces and the continuous provocative propaganda, he urged his supporters to temper their courage with insight.

In conclusion of his statement, he also lauded the letter written by Iranian professors in diaspora condemning sanctions against Iran. Iran’s former president added: “Sanctions only put further pressure on ordinary Iranians who are already burdened by their maniacal government.” Therefore, the Green Movement completely opposes any sanctions against the people of Iran, Mr. Mousavi concludes.
